The College of Chiropractors of BC Is committed to transparency in the development and revision of policies and standards which affect the regulation of chiropractic in our province. As we work towards achieving our strategic goal to “Build public and stakeholder trust in the regulator”, our stakeholder engagement strategy supports meaningful and consistent opportunities for the public, registrants and other stakeholders to inform the policies and processes that govern our regulatory work.

Consultation is an effective tool to engage with the public, registrants and other stakeholders to ensure that policies will have their intended outcome and enhance public protection.  Following a published evidence review of consultation practices utilized by other regulatory bodies, a framework for consultation was formally adopted to support the College’s evidence-informed approach to policy development.  The principles governing this framework are:

• Justified: Each consultation must include a well articulated rationale for the approach to consultation.
• Defined: Public, registrant and stakeholder groups that are requested to engage in consultation will be provided with clear expectations of how their feedback will be collected and used.
• Appropriate: A variety of consultation methods and resources, such as surveys, will be used to collection consultation feedback. The tools selected are proportionate to the project or policy’s requirements.
• Comprehensive: Consultation will include a strategy for ensuring collected input is equitable and balanced, depending on the objectives of the project. This strategy must also include consideration of mechanisms for marginalized or equity seeking groups to engage, as appropriate.
• Approved: Consultation to support policy development is recommended by the Registrar and approved by the Board.
