Indigenous Cultural Safety, Humility, and Anti-racism Practice Standard

Indigenous Cultural Safety, Humility, and Anti-racism Practice Standard

The BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM), the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC (CPSBC) and Indigenous partners, such as the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA), collaboratively developed and launched their Indigenous Cultural Safety, Cultural Humility, and Anti-racism Practice Standard in February 2022.

Subsequently, the CCBC collaborated with 10 other health profession colleges to adapt the Indigenous cultural safety, humility, and anti-racism standard of practice. This collaborative work was guided by Sulksun (Shane Pointe), proud member of the Coast Salish Nation and the Musqueam Indian Band, and Knowledge Keeper to all, and Joe Gallagher (k’wunəmɛn) of Tla’amin Nation, Principal at Qoqoq Consulting Ltd.

On September 14, 2022 the College Board approved the Indigenous Cultural Safety, Humility, and Anti-Racism Practice Standard (the Standard) that sets clear expectations for how registrants are to provide culturally safe and anti-racist care for Indigenous clients and patients. For more information about the Standard please see the following link and read more in our announcement.
