A health regulator’s (college’s) legal obligation is to protect the public through the regulation of their registrants. They do this by:
- determining registration requirements
- setting standards of practice
- recognizing education programs
- maintaining a register that everyone can search, and
- addressing complaints about their registrants
Proposed Amendments – College Amalgamations
The Ministry of Health is proposing amendments to the Health Professions Designation and Amalgamation Regulation. The proposed amendments to the regulation would establish the amalgamations of 11 regulatory colleges into two, effective June 28, 2024.
The following colleges would be amalgamated into one college:
- College of Chiropractors of British Columbia
- College of Massage Therapists of British Columbia
- College of Naturopathic Physicians of British Columbia
- College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of British Columbia
The following colleges would be amalgamated into one college:
- College of Dieticians of British Columbia
- College of Occupational Therapists of British Columbia
- College of Physical Therapists of British Columbia
- College of Psychologists of British Columbia
- College of Opticians of British Columbia
- College of Optometrists of British Columbia
- College of Speech and Hearing Professionals of British Columbia
